The Astor Hotel was built by real estate developer Oscar Brachman for a Milwaukee hotel tycoon, Walter Schroeder and considered to be one of the finest hotels in the Midwest. Nearly a century later, the tradition remains with The Astor is home to many permanent downtown residents, extended-stay visitors and travelers from all over the world.

A truly great place to stay for the price. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a nice lower east side Milwaukee hotel with charm, this is it! I will definitely stay here again and again when I visit Milwaukee.
NOBLE ROOTS since 1920
Originally known as the “Astor-on-the-lake,” the Astor Hotel is a very large, nine-story building, which has housed both travelers and permanent residents since it was completed in 1920. It covers a half a block in a largely residential lakeside neighborhood of Milwaukee’s historic East Town district.
As you enter The Astor Hotel you’ll find the lobby to be simple but yet elegantly designed, adorned with several stained glass domes which illuminate the entrance. An incredible, round stained glass dome provides the ceiling for The Rotunda Room. Other classical details such as round-arched windows, balustrades, inset stone panels, large crown molding and crystal chandeliers are just a few of the features of the hotel.
